Right at the top of this show our performer comes on stage for a bit of 'show admin' which includes a rail against a previous reviewer "that didn't get the show". Now assuming that they knew there was a reviewer in the room this was a bold move, I am on edge, will I enjoy this? If I don't am I just not going to get it either?
Sportsperson is Bradley's story of gender, sport - particularly topical at the time given the RFUs newly implemented ban on trans players - and fitting in when maybe there isn't an exact pigeon hole for them, wrapped around a recent autism diagnosis, and also asks the question 'What does it take to be a Sportsperson?'.
Bradley comes across occasionally as a slightly awkward performer, perhaps given the autism this might be expected but here is a fine line between deadpan delivery and just making the show feel a little stilted, it's a difficult line to trot and at times they fall on both sides of that line.
There is a good story to be told here that put across with a little more enthusiasm would make for a better show although in fairness it is always difficult to get a room going when there are less than 10 people there and the show contains elements of interactivity with the audience.
An enjoyable but unspectacular show for those interested in the subjects covered rather than the occasional punter.
