Around the World in 80 Puns
Laughing Horse @Bar 50
⭐️⭐️⭐️
For our first show of the day we head to Bar 50 for Iain MacDonald’s trip around the world with a pun for every country. Despite having been coming to the fringe for almost 2 decades the venue is new on me and is a bedroom sized room with around 40 seats, most of which are pleasingly full for such an early show. It’s the kind of Fringe venue that might get hellishly hot on a warm day, but today we’re fine as the weather in Edinburgh is typically grey.
As you would imagine with a pun show there are an immense number of jokes across an hour, some land, some don’t, some land with some and not with others. The crowd is a little cool which doesn’t help MacDonald and he’s still learning some of the jokes for some of the countries which feels like it slows the show a little.
You will laugh, you will groan, you will laugh and groan together (a teenage Darkchatter commented that there are loads of ‘Dad Jokes’ in it; a definite compliment from him) and it’s a show that will only get better and slicker as the festival progresses.
Worth starting your day with.
